King's Kids
We are pleased to announce that tuition rates will remain the same for this year with NO increase. Praise the Lord for His blessings! This is a result of a lot of hard work to keep down expenses and the sacrifice of the teachers. We are so thankful for our teachers.3 Year Old Class (2 Days per week)

Johnston, School Director Who are we? King’s Kids Preschool and Kindergarten is a Ministry of Abundant Life Fellowship. We are dedicated to providing the highest quality Christian education for preschool and kindergarten aged children. Our Purpose King’s Kids staff and educators have been educating children for over 30 years. These educators are dedicated professionals that have committed their lives to the spiritual, physical, social, emotional, and educational growth of young children. King’s Kids Preschool and Kindergarten is a ministry of Abundant Life Fellowship with a staff of warm and experienced professionals dedicated to early childhood education. Our Objective As part of King’s Kids Preschool and Kindergarten, your child will: Spiritually learn about God’s love and learn to share that love with one another. Physically develop large and small muscle coordination. Socially learn to interact in a group, share and take-turns. Emotionally develop self-esteem and self-reliance. Educationally learn to explore and enjoy books, cooking, science, music, art, dramatic play, and more! Our Roots It all started over forty years ago with a fine Christian woman named Bette L. Olson who attended Moody Bible Institute. She began to work with orphan children of preschool age for the Indian Mission School in Yukon, Canada. After marrying she moved with her husband to Tacoma. When her son was in kindergarten she began working for Life Center as their preschool art teacher. To help with own growth and income she started taking Early Childhood Education classes at Bates Vocational College in the afternoons while her son was in school at Tacoma Baptist School. Her pastor mentioned that he would like to start a preschool and she “foolishly” said she would do it. So after careful examination of the laws and regulations and a great deal of prayer, she and her friend Marilyn J. Johnston started King’s Kids Preschool in 1976. The total enrollment was nineteen in each of the three and four year old classes. They ran the school only on the tuition that came in and learned to make do with very slim salaries. By the third year, King’s kids had twenty students in each class and a waiting list. So they expanded both of the classes to a morning and afternoon. Their helpers said it couldn’t be done but “God likes to do the impossible.” In 1982 they added Kindergarten with eight students. Then in 1986 they moved their school to rooms rented to them from Tacoma Baptist School. In 1992 they joined forces with Mount Zion Lutheran Church and became Mt. Zion Christian Preschool, the King’s Kids. In 1998 Mt. Zion consolidated with two other churches to form United Lutheran Church of Tacoma. In May 2010 King’s Kids Preschool and Kindergarten became a ministry of Abundant Life Fellowship. King’s Kids have an enrollment capacity of sixty students between three classes: 3 year old, 4 year olds, and Kindergarten. King’s Kids have a permanent home and a glorious future. We thank the Lord for our beginnings under the stewardship of Mrs. Bette L. Olson and Mrs Marilyn J. Johnston and the continued hard work of others. We also continue to thank the Lord and ask His blessings as we go forward. Special Features Christian Atmosphere Our staff brings the love of the Lord into the classroom and shares Bible stories and songs with the children. Arrival As our teachers will be busy preparing for the daily activities, children will be allowed in the classrooms no more than five minutes prior to the start of class. Departure Please be prompt in picking up your child after class. Except in emergency situations, there will be an extra late charge of $1.00 per minute for students left more than 15 minutes after class dismissal time. Please escort your child into and out of the classroom. A written note will be required from you on any day that someone else will be picking up your child. The teachers cannot release your child to a stranger! Tuition and Payment Procedure Tuition is calculated on a yearly figure and divided into nine equal payments for your convenience. This means that holidays, in-service days, vacations (winter and spring), sick days do not change the monthly tuition rate. Tuition is due by the 5th of each month. There will be a $25.00 late charge after the 15th of the month. There is a drop box located in the preschool entrance or your checks can be mailed to King’s Kids Preschool and Kindergarten, 5917 South Thompson Ave., Tacoma, Washington 98408. Teachers cannot accept tuition payments. If there is a need to withdraw your child from school, please submit in writing 14 days prior to withdrawal date. School Policy Absences and Illnesses The school cannot deduct for any absences caused by vacations, colds, other illnesses. For the health of all children, please do not send your child to school if he/she exhibits any of the following symptoms: - Vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours. - Watery eyes - Deep cough - Inflamed nostrils - Unusual irritability - Heavy nasal discharge - Fever, Rash, or any contagious diseases Registration Registration forms and fees as well as updated immunization verification are due before the child can start school. Accident and Emergency Procedure An emergency injury or illness that occurs during the school hours will be reported to you immediately. A written report of the incident will be sent home with you that day. Toys We prefer that children not bring toys from home except on special sharing days. Playthings will be provided at school. Discipline We approach discipline in a very positive way. We first try a variety of positive guidance techniques, such as redirection of the child to another activity. If we are unsuccessful in preventing inappropriate behavior, a short time-out may be necessary. If this occurs the parent will be notified at the time of pick-up. If the child is nonresponsive to the redirection or time-out it may be necessary to notify the parent to have the child picked up. There will be at no time any form of corporal or demanding punishment. Food We prefer that your child not bring or candy to school unless arrangements have been made in advance with your child’s teacher. No gum will be allowed in the classroom. Please have your child eat meals before or after school away from the classroom. Parties We enjoy celebrating birthdays with your child. If you wish to send a special treat that day we recommend muffins, cookies, fruit, or other nutritious snacks. Also non-food items such as stickers or party favors are great. Please contact the teacher several days before your child’s birthday. School Work Your child will be bringing home their treasured creations. Please remember these works of art are important for the skills your child is using to create them. Remember that the process is more important than the end result! Some days your child may bring home no visual work on paper but be assured that your child participates in many learning activities. You may wish to send a backpack to school with your child each day for his or her school work. Parents Participation Parents are not required to help with our school programs; however, we do have an active Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF) and encourage your participation. You may be contacted by the PTF for activities, fund-raisers, and other special occasions. For more information on the PTF, please contact the church office at (253) 472-3600. Work Parties From time to time King’s Kids hold work parties and fundraisers to help support our school. We request your assistance with these events in order to keep meeting our school equipment and program standards.
